* 13% of households in Oregon are “food insecure.”
* 47% of households seeking emergency food have someone working.
* Working parents with children, particularly young parents, have some of the highest hunger rates.
* 10% of Oregon high school students skip meals because they don’t have enough money for food.
* 46.3% of students in Polk County are eligible for free/reduced lunches. 50.2% of students in Marion County are eligible for free/reduced lunches.
OASL Conference Attendees, it is time to STEP UP! Bring a couple of canned food items to the conference. Look for donation barrels throughout. All proceeds will be donated to the Marion Polk Food Share.

The 2009 Annual Conference will take place in Salem, OR, October 9 & 10, 2009 at the Salem Conference Center, located at 200 Commercial Street SE, Salem.
Highlights include: Friday Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award Luncheon featuring Sara Pennypacker, Friday Author Dessert featuring Gene Luen Yang, Keynote address from Britt White, and Saturday Author Banquet featuring Gail Carson Levine.
