Last week at the OASL conference several of you asked for free early literacy resources you can download, print, and give to parents.  Here they are!  If you have any questions or want more information contact me at katie.anderson@state.or.us.

Websites with free early literacy materials you can print and give to parents:

Saroj Ghotting:  Early Childhood Literacy Consulting

http://www.earlylit.net/earlylit/index.html

On this website you will find downloadable early literacy brochures for parents in English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and French.  You’ll also find bookmarks with early literacy skills on them for parents, early literacy activity cards for parents to do with their kids at home, lots of storytime time planning resources, and resources for learning more about early literacy and brain development.

Every Child Ready to Read @ your library

http://www.ala.org/ala/alsc/ECRR/workshopsab/workshopmaterials/WorkshopMaterials.htm

This will take you to brochures, handouts, posters, and other early literacy materials for parents.  This is a national early literacy curriculum developed by the Public Library Association, it is the most common one used in Oregon public libraries.  You will also find the scripts/lesson plans that librarians use to present the classes to parents.

Washington Learning Systems

http://www.walearning.com/index.html

Here you will find free parent education handouts in English and Spanish.  Videos in more languages are available to purchase, but check with your public library first to see if they have it available for you to check out for free.

Mother Goose Programs ™

http://mothergooseprograms.org/osc/index.php?cPath=1

This is a direct link to 39 early literacy, math, and science activities you can download, but I encourage you to look at the rest of the website for booklists and articles that may be good resources for you and parents.  Mother Goose Programs provide adults with picture books, activity guides, materials and training to transform reading with preschool children into multidimensional and powerful learning experiences.  You will find that a few Oregon libraries offer Mother Goose early literacy, math, and science classes for parents and their preschoolers, they usually partner with schools to provide it.

Contact your local library to find out if the offer any early literacy training for parents.  Many of them also provide outreach to preschools and preschool teachers!  Here are just a few links:
